REACH and CLP

Like all industries, it is essential for HALCOR to use various chemicals at its facilities during the production process. The use of chemicals is necessary to properly process metals. HALCOR always ensures that it strictly complies with the applicable legislation as regards the use and disposal of chemicals and takes additional measures to limit their use to absolutely necessary levels. All actions that HALCOR takes to ensure the proper use and management of substances, fully conform to the standards and requirements mentioned in the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and relate to:
  • storage in water-tight and secure areas, where necessary.
  • user training in proper handling and prevention of leaks into the environment.
  • conducting readiness drills in case of emergency.
  • taking preventative measures to avoid chemical leaks.

HALCOR has placed special collection units in all points that a spillage of liquids may occur, ensuring therefore that no such materials find their way to the environment.

The new EU regulation for chemicals (Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006) in force since 1 June 2007, bearing the acronym REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals), has enforced measurers concerning health and environment for substances that also concern HALCOR Group.

This Regulation aims to improve the protection of human health and the environment, from the dangers that result from the use of chemicals, also to promote alternative methods of control and to improve the safe handling and use of substances in all sectors of the industry. Moreover the new CLP Regulation (Classification, Labelling and Packaging) of EU (EC/1272/2008), has imposed additional requirements on the classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures.

HALCOR S.A and its affiliates FITCO S.A and SOFIA MED are committed to meet legal obligations under REACH and CLP legislation.
